Castlewood Canyon State Park - Franktown, CO
We loved hiking at Castlewood Canyon State Park today! There are many easy to difficult trails to choose from, and lots of other activities like rock climbing, birding, educational programs, photography, and wildlife viewing. Make sure you bring a lunch to enjoy the many places to picnic here.
Our hike: The kiddos (ages 5 & 6) were able to hike the Inner Canyon and Lake Gulch trails for a total of two miles. We also enjoyed seeing the Dam Ruins Historic Site just off the Inner Canyon trail and Lake Gulch trail intersection. We ate our lunch near the Dam Ruins Historic Site since there were many large boulders to sit on. There is a small creek that you have to cross on this loop, but during the winter the kids loved walking across the ice.
Winter hiking: Pack microspikes! The beginning of the Inner Canyon trail was steep and icy. Yikes! You could easily take a bad slip here.
